Hand-made Birthday Card!

Quite recently, well, about a month ago, it was Andraste's birthday and she requested I make her a lovely hand-made card. And being the excentric I am, I ended up making her a huge, sparkly, butterfly, Lucius Malfoy card (because she's in love with him). It took me about 10 hours to make, not including the drawning of the character, but I think she liked it... and well... here's all the photos I took of it and a bit of a guide to how I made it ;)

This isn't the whole of the card, but it was when it was nearly finished. I cut the general size out of about 4 foot of black card, measuring it against the drawing (that I made first) and how much space I would need to do the cut off edge and keep it look spread out and attractive without having not enough room to stick down the picture.
At first I drew about 4 different butterflies to go on the front (as you can see in the top right corner of the 3rd pic) and then traced around them to make blank templates to be used as stencils for the cut edge and the silver spray, also crating an extra large one from a folded A4 piece of paper and the laws of symetry.

The final result turned out like this, I know there isn't much change, but at the time there was a lot of change going on in my head: Initially, I was going to have Lucius on the front of the card, with the other butterflies coming out from below him so it merged from man, into a swarm of butterflies, the dark black working like a kind of perspective against the silver of the underlying page, but arfter the spraying and waiting for it to dry, I came to the conclusion that it looked pretty enough as it was and if anything the face would ruin it and cause too much caos on the front, slipping him in the middle as a kind of page break.
I don't know if you can see it there, but the way I stuck the butterflies down was with little chain springs of different sizes on the bellies, and then by folding the wings up slightly.

In other birthday news, it's mine on the 25th and in true celebration of youth, Me, Andraste and Alexis are going to fockin' Legoland to go on Legorides and be a hero and slay a dragon and get free lego in our legoland happy meals and all the shabazzle!

Have a fun life
Lex

Oh and btw, by all means use my card idea if you want - I'd be quite flattered if you did - but please let me have a little credit and don't pretend like it's your idea...
Thanks x
